Get answers to common questions about IPL Spot Treatment.
During your IPL Spot Treatment you’ll have protective eyewear, targeted pulses of light and a cooling device. Sessions usually last 15–30 minutes; you may feel mild snapping or warmth. Slight redness or swelling can appear but typically resolves within a few days.
Treatment count varies with severity; many clients see significant improvement after two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Darker pigment or vascular concerns may require extra treatments, which we determine during consultation and initial assessment.
IPL is safe for many skin types but less ideal for darker Fitzpatrick skin tones due to pigment risks. We perform a consultation and patch test, and may recommend alternative lasers or settings to maximize safety and results.
Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, mild blistering or crusting, and increased sensitivity. Rarely hypo- or hyperpigmentation can occur. Most effects resolve within days to weeks; strict sun protection and follow-up care reduce complication risks.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks, stop topical retinoids and certain acids before treatment, and do not wax or chemically peel the area. Disclose medications and arrive makeup-free for accurate assessment and safe treatment.
You may notice gradual lightening of pigmentation and reduced redness over several weeks as treated cells clear. Full results often require a series of sessions; maintenance treatments and sun protection help preserve outcomes and skin health.
